© Bang Showbiz Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has made a trademark application The former actress revealed last month that her podcast series for 'Spotify' would be named 'Archetypes' and she's made an application at the United States Patent and Trademark Office for protection on the moniker - a word derived from ancient Greek that has been used for centuries and means the perfect original from which other things are copied - for a range of goods and services.
The trademark bids are "in the fields of cultural treatment of women and stereotypes facing women" and include podcasts, television programmes, DVDs, CDs and entertainment services distributed through satellite and cable TV, global computer networks, the internet, wireless devices, mobile applications, set-top boxes, webcasts and streaming media, MailOnline reports.
The application was made by Archewell Audio, one of Meghan and her husband Prince Harry's 11 companies.
Meghan could face legal challenges from any companies that use the word in their names, such as skincare and cleaning product firm Archetypes, which already has an established trademark.
The 40-year-old duchess - who has Archie, two, and Lili, nine months, with Harry - shared the first trailer for the podcast last month and pledged to "investigate the labels that try to hold women back".
In an audio teaser for the series, the duchess addressed the way women have long been generalised, particularly in popular culture and the media.
She asked: "This is how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us . . . but where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives?
"This is Archetypes — the podcast where we dissect, explore, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back," she says in the teaser. "I'll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And I'll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place."
Meghan and Harry announced in 2020 their production company Archewell Audio had agreed a multi-year partnership with Spotify with the intention of building "community through shared experience, narratives and values."
